At Cheshire Fitness Zone (CFZ), our goal is to help children and adolescents of all ages feel confident in growing their abilities through therapeutic programs that strengthen and teach new skills for use in everyday life.

Our Services

Our monthly “Employee Spotlight Series” offers a chance to meet members of the team and learn about their experience working with children.

Meet Ali Brown, SLP

Ali always knew she wanted to work with kids, just because, she felt like they can learn as much from her as she can from them. She wasn’t really sure about speech, though. She didn’t know what speech therapy was when she was in college and she didn’t really know what she wanted to major in. Then one of her mom’s friends said, Ali should try speech and so she tried it and here she is! …. and we are so glad she is!

Can you describe a typical day working at CFZ is like?

I really don’t think there is a typical day at Cheshire Fitness Zone. All of the kids have different unique personalities and I see probably about 9 kids each day.  Some are OT co-treats, some are with PT and some are just speech. However, the kids are obviously great and the day is never boring.

How did you know you wanted to work with kids?

I always knew I wanted to work with kids, just because, I feel like they can learn as much from me as I can from them. I wasn’t really sure about speech, though. I didn’t know what speech therapy was when I was in college and I didn’t really know what I wanted to major in and one of my mom’s friends said, Ali should try speech and so I tried it and here I am!

What is your favorite part about working at Cheshire Fitness Zone?

My favorite part about my job is how I never really know what to expect with the kids, some days I am covered with glue and bubbles from all of the crafts that we do and other times, I spend most of my time in the ball pit in the OT gym. I love how as a therapist, you can take almost anything and make it into a speech and language therapy session.

What are three words to describe you and why?

I think a good therapist, whether speech or another discipline should be innovative, flexible and motivated. You always have to be ready for what comes next, cause the kids are always unpredictable and I know that, when they come to the clinic they’re ready to work and I should be to.

What is something you wish to acheive over the next 10 years?

Over the next 10 years, I want to take on more of a leadership role and find my specialty. I have worked here for about 2 years now and so I have gotten a broad range of all the little different aspects of speech therapy and I want to find my niche here. I also want to take on a leadership role and maybe take on a student like our supervisor, Kim, did for me. I want to help them get certified and join the speech world and help them make a difference.
