At Cheshire Fitness Zone (CFZ) our goal is to help children and adolescents of all ages feel confident in growing their abilities through therapeutic programs that strengthen and teach new skills for use in everyday life.

Services include: Physical Therapy (PT), Occupational Therapy (OT) and Speech Therapy (ST).

Our monthly, “Employee Spotlight Series,” offers a chance to meet members of the team and learn about their experience working with children.

For this month’s spotlight, we spoke to Megan Porto, SLP. Megan has been with Cheshire Fitness Zone since 2013. She specializes in AAC, articulation, receptive and expressive language disorders and is also PROMPT trained.

Can you describe what a typical day working at CFZ is like?

A typical day working at Cheshire Fitness Zone is very busy. If we are not working with the kids and the families, then we are planning for the sessions and getting things together but its, its fun. Its fun and busy!

How did you know you wanted to work with kids?

I always wanted to work with kids. My dad was a teacher so I would go into school with him when I was younger and then as I got older, my first job was in a daycare center. I just have always loved working with kids. We do placements in grad school, one with older elderly population and one with kids and I just loved the pediatric environment.

What is your favorite part about your job?

My favorite part about working at Cheshire Fitness Zone is interacting with all of the families and helping the clients reach their goals.

What are three words to describe you and why?

Three words to describe me at work would be flexible because sessions are always changing and we have to just be on our toes and be prepared to go with the flow also fun because we like to incorporate games and activities into the sessions to make everyone have a good time and passionate because because I feel very strongly that everyone should have a voice and be able to communicate through whatever means possible.

What is something you have on your wish list to achieve over the next ten years?

In ten years, I will have two daughters that will be able to drive and my son will be a preteen. So hopefully I will be able to spend more time at the clinic and help more people reach their speech goals.

Stay tuned for more Employee Spotlight features to get to know the staff at driving the results at Cheshire Fitness Zone.
