How to Schedule a Pediatric Therapy Evaluation at Cheshire Fitness Zone

Starting therapy can feel like a big step for families. At Cheshire Fitness Zone, we want you to feel informed, supported, and confident from the very first phone call. This quick guide explains exactly how to schedule a pediatric therapy evaluation with us and what to expect once you’re here.

Our goal is to make the process clear and easy so you can focus on what matters most: your child’s growth and well-being. We proudly serve families in Cheshire, Meriden, Orange, Torrington, Guilford, and surrounding Connecticut communities.

What is a Pediatric Therapy Evaluation?

An evaluation is the first step in the pediatric therapy process. During this appointment, one of our licensed therapists will observe and interact with your child, gather information from you, and use tools to assess your child’s current skills. This helps us understand your child’s strengths and any areas that may need extra support.

Evaluations also give you, as the caregiver, a chance to share your concerns, ask questions, and set goals with the therapist. The result is a personalized plan of care tailored to your child and your family.

Our Pediatric Therapy Services

Cheshire Fitness Zone offers a full range of pediatric therapy services, including:

We have six clinics serving families across Connecticut in Cheshire, Meriden, Orange, Torrington, and Guilford.

Each therapy area targets different skills and may have its own evaluation process. For example, a child referred for both speech and occupational therapy would need a separate evaluation for each service. This ensures that every therapist can conduct a thorough assessment and design a plan specific to their specialty.

Begin With Your Pediatrician and Receive a Referral

Pediatric therapy works a little differently than a typical doctor’s office. To schedule an evaluation with us, you will first make an appointment with your child’s pediatrician to discuss any concerns. If your pediatrician feels your child could benefit from therapy, they will provide you with a referral.

After We Receive Your Referral

Once we receive the referral, one of our friendly office staff will contact you. We will gather some information about your child, verify your insurance benefits, and guide you through our intake paperwork.

Schedule Your Child’s Evaluation

After your paperwork is complete, we will help you schedule your child’s evaluation with the appropriate therapist whether that is speech, occupational, physical, feeding, or aquatic therapy. We do our best to offer times that fit your family’s schedule.

After the Evaluation

During the evaluation, the therapist will assess your child’s skills, talk with you about your concerns, and explain their observations. They will then determine whether services are recommended. If therapy is recommended, an office staff member will reach out to discuss the plan and set up a schedule that works best for your family.
